Tax Specialist (6‑month contract)

About the role

Our client, a leading financial institution, is looking for a Tax Specialist on a six‑month contract with strong potential for extension. This hybrid position requires three days per week in the office and occasional additional on‑site days. The role focuses on high‑value estate, trust, and terminal tax filings while providing exposure to post‑mortem tax planning.

Key responsibilities

• Collect required information from clients and internal/external sources to prepare complex income tax returns.
• Prepare and file T1 personal and terminal returns, GREs, and T3 Trust & Estate returns.
• Perform calculations, complete tax schedules, and organize documentation for complex filings.
• Identify post‑mortem and tax‑planning opportunities and act as a technical resource to the Estate & Trust Advisory team.
• Review assessment notices and prepare adjustment requests, objections, and clearance certificate applications.

Required profile

• Minimum 3 years of experience in an accounting or tax‑related role.
• Strong experience with T1 preparation, including terminal (final) T1 returns.
• Hands‑on experience with T3 Trust & Estate returns.
• Working knowledge of Graduated Rate Estates (GREs).
• Post‑secondary degree in Accounting or a related field.
• Proficiency with TaxPrep or similar tax‑preparation software.
