Senior Insurance Coordinator

About the role

The Senior Insurance Coordinator is a key member of UBC's Safety & Risk Services team, reporting to the Director of Insurance & Loss Prevention. This operational role manages all aspects of the commercial insurance department, including financial transactions, policy administration, claims coordination, and compliance.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare and manage financial records, process insurance expenses, and handle month‑end/year‑end activities such as accruals, journal entries, and reconciliations.
• Develop and monitor complex annual or project‑based financial data, providing analysis and metrics for reporting.
• Maintain and update insurance and loss‑prevention program guidelines and documentation.
• Support budgeting, financial forecasting, and variance analysis in collaboration with finance teams.
• Oversee end‑to‑end claims reimbursement, ensuring timely reconciliation and accurate documentation.
• Conduct audits of insurance department transactions to meet policy expiry and claim limitation requirements.
• Assist with insurance renewals and construction policy extensions.
• Analyze certificate of insurance requests, issue certificates and coverage letters as needed.
• Update waiver templates and advise the university community on their application.
• Engage with brokers, insurers, and facilities managers for loss‑control visits and follow‑up actions.

Required profile

• Undergraduate degree in a relevant discipline and enrollment in the CPA Professional Education Program.
• Minimum three years of related experience or equivalent education/experience combination.

Required skills

• Strong knowledge of commercial property and casualty insurance and loss‑prevention programs.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Ability to manage multiple tasks independently with high attention to detail.
