Landscape Architect

About the role

The Town of Whitby is seeking a Landscape Architect to lead park and trail design, development, and redevelopment projects. This hybrid role supports community growth and sustainability while collaborating with internal teams, external consultants, and the public.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare and review park and landscape designs, cost estimates, budgets, and tender documents.
• Provide direction to multidisciplinary consulting teams and contractors throughout project phases.
• Manage project schedules from concept to completion and ensure compliance with best practices.
• Coordinate public engagement sessions and prepare presentation materials for reports and senior leadership.
• Conduct research, technical analysis, and respond to public inquiries related to park and trail projects.

Required profile

• Post‑secondary degree in Landscape Architecture from a recognized institution.
• Minimum four years of progressive experience in park landscape design and construction project management.
• Registered member (or ability to obtain) with the Ontario Association of Landscape Architects.
• Strong communication, negotiation, and analytical skills with the ability to work independently and in a team.
• Valid unrestricted Class G driver’s licence and access to a personal vehicle.

Required skills

• Proficiency in AutoCAD.
• Advanced use of Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel).
• Experience with project management software.
