General Duty Nurse – Thoracic/Vascular Surgery (N2)

About the role
The Registered Nurse (RN) will join the Thoracic/Vascular/PCU‑S unit at the Health Sciences Centre, providing professional nursing care to patients with complex surgical needs. Working under the general supervision of the Manager, Health Services, the RN will deliver independent nursing services, administer prescribed treatments, and lead the multidisciplinary team to ensure safe patient discharge.
Key responsibilities
- Provide direct nursing care to surgical patients, including assessment, medication administration, and wound management.
- Coordinate patient care plans and facilitate discharge processes.
- Serve as a clinical leader within the unit, delegating tasks and supporting team members.
- Maintain accurate documentation in accordance with provincial standards.
- Participate in quality improvement initiatives and unit education sessions.
Required profile
- Graduate of an approved Registered Nursing program.
- Active registration with the College of Registered Nurses of Manitoba (CRNM).
- Completion of an ECG Monitoring & Rhythm Analysis course within 12 months of hire.
- Completion of a Progressive Care Unit course within 18 months of hire (or sooner at manager’s discretion).
- Current CPR certification as per employer policy.
- Surgical experience preferred.
