About the role
The Department of Microbiology & Immunology at UBC seeks a Finance Specialist to provide complex financial support for research grants and sponsored agreements. Working under general supervision, you will ensure accurate financial reporting, expense tracking, and policy compliance.
Key responsibilities
- Prepare, review, and process quarterly and annual financial reports for research grants.
- Generate projected and actual expenditure, revenue, cost‑recovery, and salary reports.
- Monitor account activity, resolve cost‑centre discrepancies, and maintain expense summary worksheets.
- Develop and streamline financial policies and workflow procedures in line with university standards.
- Respond proactively to financial inquiries, troubleshoot issues, and communicate solutions to faculty and staff.
- Liaise with Financial Operations, HR, Research Services, NSERC, and external funders.
- Provide training and support for Workday users, adapting to varying skill levels.
Required profile
- Undergraduate degree in finance, accounting, or related field.
- Experience supporting research grants or academic departments.
- Strong analytical abilities and attention to detail.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
