Accounting Specialist

About the role

We are seeking an Accounting Specialist to join the start‑up of a new lithium‑battery separator plant in Port Colborne, Ontario. The role supports all accounts payable activities for Asahi Kasei Battery Separator Canada, ensuring accurate processing of invoices, expense reports and payments while maintaining compliance with company policies.

Key responsibilities

• Manage end‑to‑end accounts payable for the plant construction and ongoing manufacturing operations.
• Validate, code and process vendor invoices and credit notes, ensuring proper approvals and alignment with purchase orders.
• Prepare payment runs, determine timing, and handle priority items and exceptions.
• Maintain vendor master data and respond to inquiries while safeguarding confidential financial information.
• Process employee expense reports in Concur and ensure policy compliance.
• Monitor daily bank activity, perform reconciliations and support month‑end and year‑end close.
• Assist internal and external audits by preparing documentation and explaining transactions.
• Collaborate with Finance, Procurement, Construction and Engineering to resolve discrepancies and improve controls.

Required profile

• Post‑secondary education in Accounting, Finance or a related field; working towards CPA designation is preferred.
• Minimum 3 years of accounts payable experience, preferably in a manufacturing or project‑based environment.
• Strong attention to detail, accuracy and ability to manage high‑volume transactions with minimal supervision.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills and ability to work with cross‑functional teams.
