About the role
The City of Mississauga’s Office of the City Clerk is seeking an Elections Assistant to join the core election team for the October 2026 municipal election. This temporary role supports a range of administrative functions to ensure a smooth and compliant election process.
Key responsibilities
- Assist with election worker recruitment, data entry, and preparation of agendas and meeting minutes.
- Support the candidate nomination process and manage related documentation.
- Update and distribute the Voter’s List, including revisions as needed.
- Coordinate polling‑site logistics, ensuring furniture, equipment and accessibility requirements are met at schools and other venues.
- Maintain and update the election website with current information.
- Respond to inquiries from candidates, voters and election workers.
- Help train election workers and perform reception duties as required.
- Perform other related duties assigned by the Manager/Supervisor of Elections.
Required profile
- Minimum secondary school education; post‑secondary education in office administration is an asset.
- Understanding of municipal government processes and elections preferred.
- Ability to work independently and exercise sound judgment in a fast‑paced environment.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills for interaction with diverse stakeholders.
- Physical ability to lift up to 50 lb and manoeuvre up to 100 lb.
- Access to a vehicle for frequent travel across the city and flexibility to work evenings and weekends.
Required skills
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office desktop applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
What we offer
- Hourly wage ranging from $30.05 to $40.06 (CAD).
- Fixed‑term contract from July 2026 to November 2026, 35 hours per week.
- Experience working within a municipal legislative services environment.
