Volunteer Advisor for Early-Stage Tech Startups

About the role

Invest Ottawa is looking for volunteer advisors to guide early-stage tech entrepreneurs through Mentorloop, its volunteer advisor platform. The role is low-touch and flexible: you choose how much time to give, and all introductions to mentees are made through the Mentorloop tool. It is unpaid, and hours depend on client demand each month.

Key responsibilities

• Share your experience and insights with early-stage founders and senior leaders, helping them navigate the ups and downs of building a business.
• Assess companies' challenges and provide appropriate questions, insights or guidance.
• Decide which mentees you connect with; you can hide your profile when unavailable.

Required profile

• Previous or current experience at a technology company, ideally in a leadership role (founder, C-level, VP, Director).
• Familiarity with the startup lifecycle and/or experience scaling a team through growth stages.
• Demonstrated experience as a leader, advisor, expert or mentor, with references and details of your experience in your profile.
• Strong emotional intelligence, trust-building and listening skills.
• Willingness to give back to the Ottawa startup community.
