Toolroom Technician – Vanderhoof

About the role

The Toolroom Technician provides essential support to the School of Trades and Technologies, ensuring that shop facilities, equipment, and consumables are safe, well‑maintained, and readily available for student projects. Working closely with instructors and the college’s administrative team, the technician helps maintain a reliable learning environment.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct daily shop and compound safety inspections in line with WorkSafe BC, WHMIS, and school policies.
• Perform equipment safety checks and document compliance.
• Manage inventory: receive, inspect, sort, stock, and dispose of tools, equipment, and consumables, updating the college inventory system.
• Maintain a library of maintenance manuals in paper or digital format.
• Support practical sessions by ensuring consumables and training aids are stocked, prepared, and positioned for use.
• Process purchase requests, obtain quotes, coordinate with budget approvers, and handle invoicing and credit‑card reconciliations.
• Create work orders for building or shop maintenance using college software.
• Provide brief student supervisory support for safety purposes only.
• Perform minor repairs within certification scope and arrange external service for more complex issues.
• Provide First Aid when required and attend departmental meetings.

Required profile

• Strong attention to detail and commitment to workplace safety.
• Ability to work collaboratively with instructors, supervisors, and college staff.
• Organised approach to inventory control and documentation.
• Basic knowledge of WHMIS and WorkSafe BC regulations.
• Willingness to perform occasional physical tasks and lift equipment.
