Technical Program / Product Manager (TPM)
bree · Toronto
Job description
About the role
Bree is a consumer finance platform serving Canadians who live paycheck to paycheck, and its engineering team covers customer-facing products, regulatory expansion, payments, infrastructure, security, data and machine learning. As the company grows, work spans multiple teams and needs clearer ownership and sequencing. This Technical Program Manager turns company priorities into scoped, sequenced engineering programs and carries them to release, working closely with Engineering, Product, Design, CX, Operations, Legal and leadership.
Key responsibilities
- Turn ambiguous ML, engineering and product priorities into scoped, sequenced work engineers can execute.
- Write specs and scoping documents that capture trade-offs such as training data quality, inference latency, retraining cadence and infrastructure cost.
- Run the cadence: standups, sprint planning and model review syncs, only the ones that earn their seat.
- Give executives a weekly read on what shipped, what is at risk and what decisions are needed.
- Catch drift early: underperforming models, data quality issues in pipelines, or deployments blocked by monitoring gaps.
Required profile
- Experience as a Technical Program Manager, Program Manager, Product Manager or similar role supporting a software engineering organization.
- Enough technical fluency to understand APIs, data models, system integrations, cloud infrastructure, release processes and software dependencies.
- Comfort in a fast-moving environment where priorities and requirements change.
- Nice to have: prior experience at an early-stage startup with no PM function, familiarity with mobile and web releases, feature flags, staged rollouts and production monitoring, and comfort reading SQL, logs, dashboards or technical documentation.
Required skills
- Attention to detail on ownership, dependencies, timelines and unresolved decisions.
- An AI-native working style, using tools to speed research, documentation, meeting synthesis, backlog management and status reporting.
- Nice to have: Linear, Notion, GitHub, Datadog, Slack, SQL.
What we offer
- Competitive compensation for top performers.
- Health, dental and vision coverage.
- $1,500 setup fee and $500 per year for learning and home-office stipend, plus a $1,500 annual wellness stipend.
- Free lunch in the office daily and a $250 monthly stipend for WFH days; fully remote in winter.
- Commuter benefits, parental leave, 20 annual PTO days plus unlimited sick days, an annual retreat and in-office amenities.
