Senior Fullstack Engineer
bree · Toronto
Job description
About the role
Bree, a Canadian FinTech that offers interest-free short-term loans, is hiring a Senior Fullstack Engineer in Toronto. The engineer owns meaningful product work from the initial customer problem through release and follow-up, working directly with Product, Design, CX, Operations and other engineers. The team is small but works on a product with large-scale impact on customers' access to money.
Key responsibilities
- Own the full lifecycle of a feature: discovery, technical design, implementation, testing, rollout, monitoring and follow-up.
- Work across the TypeScript and Node.js serverless backend (Lambda, API Gateway, SQS) and the React Native application.
- Make architectural decisions on service boundaries, data ownership and when to refactor versus extend.
- Instrument shipped features and hold the line on stability without slowing releases.
- Use AI coding assistants such as Codex, Cursor and Claude Code responsibly, keeping correctness, testing and quality in hand.
- Mentor other engineers through technical design, code review and cross-stack collaboration.
Required profile
- Proven experience shipping customer-facing products end to end with technical and architectural ownership.
- An AI-native development approach, using tools like Claude Code and Cursor throughout planning, implementation, debugging, testing and review.
- Track record of refactoring or modernizing existing systems, not just greenfield work.
- Strong product judgment and clear, even-keeled communication.
Required skills
- Expert-level TypeScript; fluent in Node, React/React Native, REST/GraphQL.
- Real AWS serverless experience (Lambda, SQS) or equivalent event-driven systems.
- Pragmatic testing (Jest, RNTL, Detox) wired into CI.
- Nice to have: financial products, payment systems or regulated software experience; Infrastructure as Code with Pulumi or Terraform; mobile release experience (TestFlight, Google Play, OTA updates).
What we offer
- Competitive compensation for top performers.
- Health, dental and vision benefits.
- $1,500 one-time setup and $500 per year learning and home-office stipend, plus a $1,500 annual wellness stipend.
- Free lunch in the office daily and a $250/month stipend for WFH days; fully remote in winter.
- Commuter benefits, parental leave, 20 annual PTO days plus unlimited sick days, and an annual retreat.
