Survey Assistant

About the role

McElhanney is seeking a Survey Assistant to join its field team in Grande Prairie, AB. This entry‑level position offers hands‑on experience in outdoor surveying, supporting the crew to complete projects on time and in compliance with contractual and legal requirements.

Key responsibilities

• Set up and operate conventional survey and GPS equipment.
• Follow directives from the Field Supervisor or Party Chief.
• Prepare accurate field notes when required.
• Clean, maintain, and stock survey equipment and supplies.
• Maintain the company vehicle and ensure necessary resources are available in the field.
• Use tools such as chainsaw, axe, sledgehammer, shovel, metal detector, and survey tripod to complete tasks.

Required profile

• High school diploma; technical school education or prior experience is an asset but not required.
• Physically fit, able to lift heavy equipment and work in varied environmental and wildlife‑populated conditions.
• Willingness to work remote sites for up to three‑week periods and varied hours.
• Valid driver’s licence with a clean record.
• Good written and verbal communication skills and basic computer knowledge.
• Successful completion of pre‑employment drug, alcohol, and fitness‑for‑work testing.
