About the role
The Specialist Tax (Canada) supports BHP’s tax compliance, reporting and governance across corporate, regional and international matters. Reporting to the Manager Tax, Canada, the role provides expert advice to internal stakeholders and ensures alignment with a complex regulatory environment.
Key responsibilities
- Assist in coordinating, preparing and filing Canadian federal and provincial corporate income tax returns.
- Support the preparation and filing of royalty tax and indirect tax returns.
- Assist in responding to and engaging with tax auditors.
- Prepare tax provisions and related financial information in accordance with IFRS requirements.
- Provide analysis and guidance on tax‑related note disclosures for IFRS financial statements.
- Conduct tax research and analysis to support compliance, reporting and advisory activities.
- Provide tax and business advice for new and existing transactions.
- Prepare and review complex tax calculations, modelling and analytics.
- Analyze new tax legislation and assess its impact on BHP’s Canadian and global operations.
- Participate in cross‑functional working groups, offering recommendations to management.
Required profile
- Strong knowledge of Canadian corporate, provincial and federal tax regulations.
- Experience preparing tax returns and tax provisions under IFRS.
- Ability to conduct tax research, interpret legislation and communicate implications.
- Experience liaising with tax auditors and supporting audit processes.
- Proven analytical skills for complex tax modelling and impact assessments.
