Specialist, Indigenous Graduate and Postdoctoral Initiatives

About the role

The Indigenous Graduate and Postdoctoral Specialist works collaboratively with campus partners to design, implement and manage initiatives that support the holistic success of Indigenous graduate students and postdoctoral fellows at UBC.

Key responsibilities

• Plan, develop and oversee new and existing programs that advance strategic priorities for Indigenous graduate student success.
• Provide mentorship and one‑on‑one advising throughout the admission cycle and guide students in applying for internal and external awards.
• Identify systemic barriers faced by Indigenous students and postdoctoral fellows and inform policy and strategic direction.
• Build networking, social engagement, and alumni mentorship opportunities to foster community.
• Coordinate communications, maintain the Indigenous section of the G+PS website, and support orientation and graduation events.
• Collaborate with funding and awards teams to review and develop Indigenous funding models and seek new funding sources.
• Participate in policy reviews, represent G+PS on the Indigenous Strategic Plan Implementation Committee, and propose process improvements.

Required profile

• Demonstrated experience working with Indigenous student populations and a strong understanding of graduate and postdoctoral pathways.
• Ability to work across academic and administrative units, build partnerships, and influence institutional change.
