Faculty Operations Manager

About the role

The Faculty Operations Manager oversees day‑to‑day operations of the H.R. MacMillan and Food, Nutrition and Health buildings, as well as providing operational and health‑and‑safety support to the UBC Farm, the Dairy Education and Research Centre, and the Food and Beverage Innovation Centre. This senior role ensures optimal use of research, teaching and administrative spaces while managing budgets, renovations, moves and capital projects.

Key responsibilities

• Manage building and facilities operations, coordinating work with internal units and external consultants.
• Monitor condition of all faculty facilities, initiate corrective actions, and support satellite sites.
• Work with research groups to determine renovation, service and logistics needs; oversee work orders and equipment installations.
• Develop and implement policies for property management, space allocation and physical resource maintenance.
• Respond to and resolve facility‑related problems, from emergencies to routine maintenance.
• Plan long‑term budgeting for replacements, repairs and capital acquisitions, including obtaining quotes and service agreements.
• Co‑chair the MCML Space Committee, overseeing efficient space allocation, renovations, moves and budgeting.
• Approve building access permissions and act as backup for security and alarm issues.
• Liaise with contractors, vendors and internal units to ensure quality service and resolve conflicts.
• Oversee the Faculty Safety Program, chair safety meetings and manage disaster response plans.
• Serve as Chief Fire Warden, coordinate WHMIS training and support fire safety initiatives.
