Senior Legal Counsel – Corporate

About the role

Reporting to the Senior Director, Legal Services & General Counsel, the Senior Legal Counsel provides corporate legal services within HEABC’s in‑house Legal Services, Negotiations & Labour Relations department. The role advises on third‑party contracts, risk management, board compliance and supports the Board of Directors on fiduciary duties.

Key responsibilities

• Provide senior‑level legal advice on internal matters, including third‑party contracts and board compliance.
• Structure, negotiate, draft and review vendor agreements, master services agreements and non‑disclosure agreements.
• Identify and mitigate legal and corporate risks, offering actionable solutions.
• Serve as the primary legal resource for the Board of Directors, ensuring adherence to bylaws and statutory requirements.
• Maintain effective relationships with member organisations and represent HEABC in public relations activities.

Required profile

• LL.B or J.D. from an accredited university and a licence to practice law in British Columbia.
• Minimum five years recent in‑house or private practice experience in corporate and commercial law.
• Current member in good standing of the Law Society of BC.
• Strong oral and written communication, analytical and problem‑solving abilities.
