Legal Counsel – 18-Month Contract

About the role

HEABC is seeking a Legal Counsel for an 18‑month contract to provide a broad range of legal and consulting services supporting the health‑sector labour relations environment in British Columbia.

Key responsibilities

• Act as counsel in arbitral hearings on high‑value or industry‑impact cases.
• Establish and maintain effective relationships with member organisations, health‑sector unions and external agencies.
• Provide legal advice on a wide range of policy and legal issues.
• Represent members or HEABC in various labour‑relations dispute‑resolution forums.
• Identify areas for strategic litigation and member education.
• Participate in or assist with health‑sector collective bargaining.

Required profile

• Law degree and current good standing with the Law Society of British Columbia (or a master’s in industrial relations, business or related field).
• Minimum three years recent experience in labour and employment law, labour relations or HR in a complex environment.
• Expertise in legal research, evaluation and interpretation of legal issues.
• Knowledge of health‑sector labour relations, legislation, collective agreements and jurisprudence.
• Strong oral and written communication with attention to detail.
• Strategic, analytical and problem‑solving abilities; team player with strong interpersonal skills.
• Ability to organise, plan and execute work within demanding schedules.
