Senior Director of Financial Reporting

About the role

This senior position leads the end‑to‑end financial reporting function for a major Canadian insurer. The role combines deep technical accounting expertise, especially around IFRS 17, with strategic leadership of a high‑performing reporting team.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare and review consolidated financial statements in accordance with IFRS, ensuring full IFRS 17 compliance.
• Act as the internal authority on IFRS 17, translating complex guidance into practical application across the business.
• Oversee financial consolidation across multiple entities, guaranteeing accuracy and completeness.
• Collaborate with actuarial, FP&A, and external auditors on IFRS 17 measurement models, disclosures, and reporting outputs.
• Monitor changes to IFRS standards and assess their impact on the reporting framework.
• Lead, mentor, and develop a team of financial reporting professionals.
• Present financial results and technical accounting positions to senior leadership and the audit committee.

Required profile

• CPA designation (CA preferred) with 10+ years of progressive financial reporting experience.
• Extensive hands‑on experience with IFRS 17 implementation or ongoing application.
• Strong background in financial consolidations within a complex, multi‑entity environment.
• Prior experience in the insurance or financial services sector is strongly preferred.
• Proven ability to lead teams and manage cross‑functional stakeholder relationships.
