Senior Director, Development & Alumni Engagement – Athletics & Recreation

About the role

UBC Athletics & Recreation is seeking a senior leader to drive fundraising and alumni engagement for its high‑profile varsity program. As Senior Director of Development & Alumni Engagement, you will create and operationalize fundraising strategies that align with the faculty’s strategic objectives and manage a program targeting more than $5 million in annual contributions.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and execute short‑ and intermediate‑term development strategies for a complex DAE program, ensuring alignment with UBC’s overall fundraising goals.
• Lead a multi‑year campaign, overseeing major‑gift prospecting, cultivation, and stewardship for gifts ranging from $100 K to multi‑million dollars.
• Manage a team of professional staff and volunteers, setting performance targets, providing coaching, and ensuring succession planning.
• Collaborate with senior university administration, athletics leadership, donors, alumni, and corporate partners to maximize private sector support.
• Oversee budgeting, operational efficiencies, and compliance with UBC financial guidelines.

• Strong interpersonal, relationship‑building, and judgment skills, with the ability to engage senior donors and university executives.
• Proven ability to lead high‑performing teams and achieve ambitious revenue targets.
