Communications Advisor

About the role

The Communications Advisor works within the VP Finance & Operations portfolio to design, implement and evaluate communication plans that serve staff, students and faculty. The role ensures accessible, consistent messaging across websites, newsletters and other channels while supporting change‑management and engagement initiatives.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and coordinate communication and engagement plans that align with VPFO priorities and UBC brand standards.
• Create and manage content for VPFO‑managed websites, newsletters, service updates, internal announcements and promotional campaigns.
• Maintain editorial calendars, tone, style and visual branding across all communication touchpoints.
• Support strategic projects such as website redesigns, emerging AI tools, surveys and campaigns through research, analytics and change‑management expertise.
• Build collaborative relationships with internal client departments, HR and external vendors to ensure consistent and effective messaging.
• Write, edit and review briefing notes, speaking notes, presentations and other communication assets.
• Apply structured project and change‑management approaches to plan timelines, milestones, stakeholder engagement and risk mitigation.

Required profile

• Undergraduate degree in a relevant discipline.
• Minimum five years of related communications experience.
• Demonstrated commitment to equity, diversity and inclusion and willingness to respect diverse perspectives.
• Strong written communication skills and ability to translate complex information into clear, user‑focused content.
