Director of Development – Faculty of Science

About the role

The Faculty of Science at UBC is seeking a senior development leader to drive fundraising and alumni engagement. Reporting to the Assistant Dean, the Director will manage a $4 million portfolio of leadership donors and contribute to a $13 million development program supporting the faculty’s $27 million annual goal. This is an ongoing, full‑time position based on the Vancouver campus.

Key responsibilities

• Operationalize fundraising strategy across the faculty and advance leadership‑gift account plans.
• Build and steward alumni and donor relationships to support multi‑year campaigns.
• Provide day‑to‑day leadership, coaching and mentorship to a team of career fundraisers.
• Manage a personal portfolio of major‑gift prospects (75‑150) and conduct face‑to‑face visits.
• Develop proposals and collaborate with donors to secure gifts for priority projects.
• Oversee donor pipeline, recognition, acknowledgement and stewardship programs.

• Self‑starter with curiosity about scientific research and ability to translate enthusiasm into compelling cases for support.
• Excellent judgment to identify, cultivate and convert high‑level partners into sustained investment.
• Comfortable navigating complexity, ambiguity and cross‑faculty initiatives.
• Energetic, collegial personality with a sense of humour and commitment to equity and inclusion.
