Senior Construction Manager - Mainline Pipeline

About the role

Arnett & Burgess Energy Services (ABES) is hiring a Senior Construction Manager for its Blackfalds, Alberta office, reporting to the Senior Operations Manager. The role leads the execution of large, complex mainline pipeline projects from pursuit through closeout, working alongside a Senior Project Manager. It supports mainline pipeline construction, valve site work and integrity and replacement programs for key clients across Western Canada.

The workload follows the construction cycle: travel across Western Canada, extended stays at project sites during active construction, and extended hours and six-day weeks during bidding and execution, with flexibility, reduced hours or time off during slower periods. Camp accommodation on remote projects is provided where required.

Key responsibilities

• Partner with the Senior Project Manager and estimating team to pursue, price and win strategic RFPs, owning construction methodology, spread configuration and production assumptions
• Lead the construction execution plan, including work breakdown, spread sequencing, crew and equipment loading and mobilization
• Plan and oversee the mainline sequence, valve site work and specialty scopes such as bores, HDDs and water crossings
• Drive daily and weekly production with Superintendents, managing field cost performance, crew productivity and equipment utilization
• Solve field problems two weeks ahead, covering ground conditions, access, weather and resourcing
• Lead Superintendents and field teams, develop them into future Construction Managers and ensure compliance with client specs, CSA Z662 and QC/HSE programs
• Partner with the Project Manager and client from bidding through closeout, and drive punch list completion, testing, cleanup and reclamation to client acceptance

Required profile

• 15+ years of field experience executing mainline pipeline construction on complex projects
• Direct experience with valve site assembly and installation, including fabrication and tie-ins
• Expert knowledge of mainline construction methods, from clearing and grading through hydrotesting and reclamation
• Knowledge of CSA Z662, client specifications, welding procedures, NDE requirements and inspection and test plans
• Experience supporting estimating and bid development
• Valid Class 5 driver's licence
• Willingness to spend most of the time in the field, including long periods at project sites during construction season
• Legal authorization to work in Canada with no restrictions

Preferred skills

• Prior experience as a Superintendent (Spread Boss) on mainline spreads
• Experience delivering work for major midstream or transmission operators under master service agreements
• Multi-spread or multi-year mainline program experience
• Facility, compressor/pump station or civil construction experience alongside mainline
• Gold Seal, PMP certification or a construction management diploma or degree
• Experience in both Alberta and British Columbia regulatory environments
