Project Controller (Field) - Pipeline Construction

About the role

Arnett & Burgess Energy Services (part of Quanta Services) is hiring a Project Controller for its Pipeline Construction & Integrity Programs group. The role reports to the Manager, Project Controls and works on-site across projects in Alberta, supporting mainline construction, pipeline and facility construction programs, and integrity dig work under master service agreements. It is a field-based position with shift schedules varying from 6 days on / 1 day off to 24 days on / 4 days off, and living out allowance paid while on assignment.

Key responsibilities

• Build and maintain the work breakdown structure so scope, schedule and cost all code back to the same structure
• Work with Superintendents and the Project Manager to capture quantities, production, hours and progress from the field
• Identify and document changes, and develop pricing detail and backup for each change order
• Manage purchase orders and subcontract agreements in the ERP system, from issue through receipt and close
• Audit and validate invoicing and charges against purchase orders, subcontracts and work performed
• Prepare LEM submissions, progress claims and support progress billing
• Process subcontractor and vendor payments and track holdbacks and outstanding commitments
• Maintain the project schedule, including baseline, progress updates, forecast and rolling look-aheads
• Compile revenue and cost forecasts, prepare the monthly cost report, revenue package and earned value calculations
• Maintain document control, the change log and the risk and value-add registers, and prepare client and internal reporting
• Direct and review a Project Administrator where one is assigned, and run the full controls function independently otherwise

Required profile

• High school diploma or equivalent
• 3 years of experience in project controls, cost control, scheduling, project coordination or construction administration
• Demonstrated experience in pipeline construction, integrity or comparable energy infrastructure work
• Experience with LEM submissions, progress claims and billing against a construction service agreement
• Experience preparing revenue and cost forecasts for client and internal reporting
• Valid driver's licence; legal authorization to work in Canada with no restrictions

Required skills

• ERP or construction management system, including purchase orders, subcontracts and invoice review
• Scheduling software such as Primavera P6 or Microsoft Project
• Advanced spreadsheet skills
• Preferred: post-secondary education in engineering, construction management, project management or a related discipline, pipeline estimating experience, MSA experience, and progress toward PMP, CAPM or PMI-SP
