Senior Accountant – Cross‑Border Individual Tax

About the role

MNP is seeking a Senior Accountant to lead U.S. and combined U.S.–Canadian individual income tax return preparation for a diverse client base. You will work closely with expatriates, investors, and high‑net‑worth individuals, providing technical expertise and strategic advice.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare and review U.S. and U.S.–Canadian individual income tax returns for U.S. citizens in Canada, U.S. residents working in Canada, and Canadians with U.S. investments.
• Assist with cross‑border income tax and estate planning projects.
• Deliver technical expertise on Canadian and U.S. tax, social security, and international tax treaties through client interactions, reports, and presentations.
• Participate in expatriate policy and compensation design and implementation.
• Identify tax issues, investigate discrepancies, and develop resolutions with managers or partners.
• Correspond with clients and government agencies on tax compliance matters.
• Lead engagement teams, mentor junior staff, and contribute to business‑development initiatives.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in commerce or business administration (accounting or finance preferred).
• CPA designation (or completion of CFE exam and working toward practical experience requirements).
• 2–4 years of public accounting or tax experience.

Required skills

• Working knowledge of Canadian individual income tax.
• Working knowledge of U.S. individual income tax.
• Experience with cross‑border tax compliance.
• Proficiency with accounting and tax software.
