Risk Consultant, Loss Prevention - Ontario Region

About the role

Aviva is looking for a Risk Consultant to join its Risk Management Solutions team serving the Aviva Business division. The role is home-based and flexible, with regular travel throughout Ontario and occasional national travel, and includes a company car. It combines account and field engineering work, with overnight travel of 30 to 50%.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct risk prevention visits to analyze property, product liability and construction contractor risks.
• Prepare risk management and underwriting reports.
• Provide technical advice to underwriters and help close gaps in property risk management.
• Maintain risk management services in line with ARMS standards (quality, timelines, profitability).
• Work with leadership, colleagues and partners to improve insurance services.

Required profile

• College or university degree in engineering, prevention or risk management.
• 5+ years of experience in property loss control of complex and high-risk property risks.
• Valid driver's license and passport (or ability to obtain them).
• Availability for frequent travel (80% in Ontario, 20% across Canada).
• Nice to have: account management experience, contractor and construction risk experience, and a professional designation in risk management (TPI, TAPI, CET, NICET, CFPS, CRM, CIP).

Required skills

• Reading sprinkler plans, fire pumps, suppression systems and hydraulic tests.
• Interpreting architectural, structural, mechanical and electrical plans.
• Understanding of North American building and fire codes, NFPA standards and FM or GE Gap guidelines.
• Understanding of complex Loss Scenario Engineering (MFL/PML/NLE).
• Strong technical writing and MS Office proficiency.
