Residential Mortgage Underwriter – Specialized Credit (Bilingual)

About the role

EQ Bank is seeking a bilingual Residential Mortgage Underwriter specialized in credit to assess new mortgage applications, issue commitments, and move files to solicitor instruction efficiently while maintaining sound lending judgment.

Key responsibilities

• Review mortgage applications and supporting documentation for accuracy, legitimacy, and compliance with AML/ATF requirements.
• Approve, decline, or refer applications, and ensure approved deals close on schedule by following up on conditions and documents.
• Maintain daily communication with brokers to maximize funding volumes and build strong relationships.
• Manage deal flow to meet prescribed deadlines and service level agreements, using reports to track pipeline progress.
• Provide underwriting expertise to brokers, assist colleagues as needed, and guide junior staff.

Required profile

• 2+ years of mortgage experience in the prime or alternative market.
• Strong attention to detail, analytical and problem‑solving abilities, and capacity to make decisions under pressure.
• Bilingual in English and French with excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Post‑secondary degree preferably in a financial field.

Required skills

• Proficiency in MS Word.
• Proficiency in MS Excel.
• Knowledge of AML and ATF practices.
