About the role
The University of British Columbia is seeking a highly motivated Research Assistant / Technician 5 to join the Ranger Laboratory at the BC Children’s Hospital Research Institute. The role supports an established research program investigating how early‑life adversity impacts brain development in preterm infants using a mouse model.
Key responsibilities
- Develop, optimize, and redesign specialized laboratory techniques for neonatal mouse brain tissue analysis.
- Conduct molecular, immunological, and neuroimaging assays, including immunochemistry, qPCR, immunoassays, and flow cytometry.
- Perform behavioural testing and correlate biological findings with neuroanatomical and functional outcomes.
- Design and implement new experimental approaches to study stress, pain, and treatment effects.
- Maintain detailed records, ensure compliance with lab safety protocols, and collaborate with the principal investigator and team members.
Required profile
- Strong motivation to contribute to cutting‑edge neonatal research.
- Experience working with mouse models and handling delicate brain tissue.
- Ability to develop and troubleshoot novel laboratory methods.
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
