Personal Care Attendant

About the role

The Personal Care Attendant (PCA) provides direct personal care to residents in a long‑term care home, supporting independence, safety and dignity. Reporting to the Associate Director of Care, the PCA works as part of an interdisciplinary team to deliver high‑quality, person‑centered care.

Key responsibilities

• Assist residents with activities of daily living such as personal hygiene, dressing, mobility, toileting and feeding.
• Maintain cleanliness of resident living areas and ensure equipment is safe and functional.
• Measure and record weight, height, intake and output in the electronic health record.
• Communicate changes in resident status to the Registered Practical Nurse or Registered Nurse on duty.
• Provide restorative care using assistive and adaptive measures as ordered.
• Promote a safe, private and dignified environment that respects resident choice.

Required profile

• Grade 12 certificate and Personal Support Worker certification meeting the Fixing Long‑Term Care Homes Act requirements.
• One year of experience in a long‑term care setting (preferred).
• Medical clearance confirming fitness to work.
• Proficiency in oral and written English; additional language ability is an asset.
