Registered Practical Nurse (Part‑Time) – Boardwalk Family Care

About the role

The Registered Practical Nurse (RPN) will join the Boardwalk Family Care team to deliver comprehensive, patient‑centred primary care in Kitchener. Working within an interdisciplinary team, you will provide direct clinical services, health education and support to individuals and families.

Key responsibilities

• Take client histories and prepare examination rooms.
• Triage patients by phone or in person and assess minor episodic illnesses.
• Perform basic nursing procedures such as wound dressing, injections, suture/clip removal, and vital‑signs measurement.
• Conduct point‑of‑care testing (glucose, urine dip, rapid strep) and assist with other clinic procedures.
• Provide health education and counseling in line with College of Nurses of Ontario standards.
• Carry out designated controlled acts and delegated procedures under physician‑signed medical directives.
• Assist providers with prescription ordering and maintain equipment reprocessing according to standards.
• Recognize and respond to clinical emergencies (e.g., anaphylaxis) following clinic protocols.
• Maintain accurate health records and up‑to‑date clinical notes.

Required profile

• Current registration as a Registered Practical Nurse (RPN) in Ontario.
• Current BLS/CPR‑C certification.
• Ability to work full scope of practice within an interdisciplinary primary‑care setting.
• Strong organizational skills and attention to detail for accurate documentation.

Required skills

• Vital‑signs measurement (blood pressure, pulse, temperature, oxygen saturation).
• Wound dressing and suture/clip removal.
• Injections administration.
• Point‑of‑care testing (glucose, urine dip, rapid strep).
• Clinical triage (telephone and in‑person).
• Health education and counseling.
• Controlled acts under medical directives.
• Equipment sterilization and reprocessing.
• Emergency response (anaphylaxis) and BLS/CPR‑C.
