Project Manager – Substation Construction

About the role

Valard is seeking an experienced Project Manager to lead the full lifecycle delivery of substation construction projects across Canada. Based in Calgary, you will own safety, schedule, cost, quality, and client relationship outcomes from contract handover through commissioning and closeout.

Key responsibilities

• Lead project execution for substation (up to 500 kV) and interconnection scopes from kickoff to energization.
• Develop and manage the execution plan, including procurement, subcontracting, construction sequencing, commissioning, and turnover.
• Drive site safety culture in partnership with HSE and enforce Valard, client, and regulatory safety standards.
• Own project financials, forecast, earned value, and monthly cost reporting.
• Maintain the schedule in Primavera P6, lead critical‑path recovery, and manage change orders.
• Coordinate with clients, engineers of record, authorities, Indigenous communities, and other stakeholders.
• Ensure compliance with Electrical Safety Code, CSA standards, and client specifications; oversee QA/QC and NCR resolution.

Required profile

• Post‑secondary education in Engineering or Construction Management.
• Minimum 5 years progressive project management experience in utility construction, with a track record on 115 kV+ substations.
• Experience managing projects valued $10 M–$100 M+.
• Valid driver’s licence and ability to travel ≥50 % across Canada.

Required skills

• Primavera P6 scheduling.
• Knowledge of Electrical Safety Code and CSA standards.
• Project Management Professional (PMP) designation (preferred).
• Expertise in EPC/substation construction processes.
