About the role
The Department of Emergency Medicine at the University of British Columbia is seeking a Postdoctoral Research Fellow to advance the development of a provincial Learning Health System (LHS) for emergency care in British Columbia. The fellow will focus on the first phase of the project, which involves co‑designing and testing core LHS components such as governance structures, priority‑setting methods, learning‑cycle processes, and early dashboards, using substance‑use and opioid‑related emergency care as an initial use case.
Key responsibilities
- Collaborate with UBC, Emergency Care BC and other provincial partners to design and evaluate LHS governance and priority‑setting frameworks.
- Develop and pilot learning‑cycle processes and measurement dashboards for emergency care.
- Conduct research, data analysis, and reporting to inform continuous improvement across the emergency care system.
- Engage clinicians, patients, health authorities and other stakeholders in co‑design activities.
Required profile
- PhD or equivalent in health services research, public health, epidemiology, or a related discipline.
- Experience with health system research, learning health systems, or emergency care research.
- Strong analytical, writing and communication skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively in a multi‑institutional environment.

- One‑year fixed‑term appointment with the possibility of renewal based on funding and performance.
- Salary range $70,000–$75,000 per year plus benefits.
