Pharmacy Assistant

About the role

The Winnipeg Regional Health Authority is seeking a Pharmacy Assistant to support medication management at Victoria General Hospital. Working under the Drug Distribution Manager and a pharmacist, you will ensure safe and efficient handling of pharmaceuticals across the department.

Key responsibilities

• Procure, store, and manage inventory of pharmaceuticals.
• Record, manufacture, compound, dispense, package, label, price, and distribute medications.
• Maintain compliance with departmental policies, procedures, and regulatory standards.
• Operate automated dispensing cabinets and support pharmacy computer systems.
• Assist with documentation, reporting, and quality‑control activities.

Required profile

• Completion of Grade 12 and a recognized pharmacy assistant program.
• One year of experience as a Pharmacy Assistant or Pharmacy Technician in a hospital setting (preferred).
• Current or prior enrollment in a CCAPP‑accredited Pharmacy Technician program (preferred).
• Pharmacy Technician Certificate from a recognized program.
• Ability to pass criminal records, vulnerable sector, child abuse, and adult abuse checks.

Required skills

• Knowledge of Automated Dispensing Cabinet processes.
• Familiarity with pharmacy computer systems and related software.
• Understanding of medical terminology.
• Proficiency in pharmaceutical calculations.
