Pharmacy Assistant – Hospital (Maternity Leave Cover)

About the role

The Winnipeg Regional Health Authority is seeking a Pharmacy Assistant to support inpatient pharmacy operations during a maternity leave period. Working under the Drug Distribution Manager and a pharmacist, you will ensure safe and efficient handling of all pharmaceutical products.

Key responsibilities

• Procure, store, and manage inventory of pharmaceuticals.
• Record, manufacture, compound, dispense, package, label, price, and issue medications.
• Operate and maintain automated dispensing cabinets and pharmacy computer systems.
• Follow departmental policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements.
• Collaborate with pharmacy staff to support daily operations across shifts, including evenings and weekends.

Required profile

• Grade 12 completion and graduation from a recognized pharmacy assistant program.
• Current or prior enrollment in a CCAPP‑accredited Pharmacy Technician program (minimum 50% completion) is preferred.
• One year of experience as a Pharmacy Assistant or Technician in a hospital setting is preferred.
• Pharmacy Technician Certificate from a recognized program.
• Ability to work independently, manage multiple tasks, and maintain confidentiality.

Required skills

• Knowledge of Automated Dispensing Cabinet distribution processes.
• Proficiency with pharmacy computer systems and related software.
• Understanding of medical terminology.
• Competency in pharmaceutical calculations.
