Paralegal

About the role
As a Paralegal at Homestead, you will support management by handling legal matters related to residential tenancy, rent arrears, and tenant disputes. You will act as an advisor on the Residential Tenancies Act and represent the landlord in hearings and small claims court.
Key responsibilities
- Prepare and file legal documents for the Landlord and Tenant Board (e.g., Forms N4‑N8).
- Attend weekly management meetings and provide updates on legal matters.
- Review arrears calendars, coordinate collections, and generate weekly A/R reports.
- Maintain spreadsheets for cases requiring legal action and monitor payment plans.
- File applications, prepare hearing materials, and represent the landlord at Board and small claims hearings.
- Communicate with tenants, housing authorities, and community resources regarding evictions and payment plans.
- Process bad debt records, liaise with collection agencies, and file orders with the sheriff’s office.
Required profile
- Current Law Society License in good standing and adherence to Paralegal Rules of Conduct.
- 2–3 years of office experience, preferably with landlord‑tenant matters.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills and ability to meet deadlines.
- Willingness to travel as needed.
Required skills
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel.
- Experience with Yardi Voyager Accounting System.
