Operating Room Technician

About the role

Operating Room Technicians in the Canadian Forces provide an aseptic environment for safe surgical procedures both in domestic hospitals and deployed field settings. They are integral members of the surgical team, delivering peri‑operative and post‑operative care, assisting surgeons and anesthesiologists, and performing orthopaedic casting support.

Key responsibilities

• Maintain a clean and safe environment for patient treatment and assist surgeons and anesthesiologists throughout operative procedures.
• Operate, maintain, and train personnel on field OR equipment and oversee the setup of mobile operating rooms.
• Assist patient recovery from anesthesia and provide peri‑operative care.
• Perform decontamination, cleansing, maintenance, procurement, packaging, and sterilisation of surgical instruments and medical devices.
• Operate and maintain medical and life‑support equipment.
• Manage medical records, documentation, and supply inventories, ensuring accurate accounting and replenishment.

Profile sought

• Practical Nursing diploma (LPN/RPN) with a current provincial/territorial licence.
• Letter of good standing from the regulatory authority.
• Certification as an Operating Room Technician or peri‑operative specialty is an asset.
