About the role

The Wisnovsky Lab at the Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences investigates how cancer cells modify their surface glycosylation during tumorigenesis. We are seeking a motivated Research Assistant/Technician to support experimental work and data analysis in this cutting‑edge project.

Key responsibilities

  • Perform cell culture (cell lines and primary cell isolations) and maintain sterile techniques in a biosafety cabinet.
  • Execute molecular biology protocols including DNA/RNA isolation and RT‑PCR.
  • Carry out biochemistry assays such as Western blots and enzymatic activity measurements.
  • Operate flow cytometry instruments and process resulting data.
  • Compile references, assist with manuscript figure preparation, and contribute to weekly lab meetings.
  • Record experimental data accurately and support the Principal Investigator in result analysis.
  • Assist graduate students with their projects and perform other lab‑related duties as required.

Required profile

  • Basic knowledge of cell culture, molecular biology, biochemistry, and flow cytometry techniques.
  • Ability to work safely with hazardous materials and complete UBC Biological and Chemical safety courses.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to follow established protocols.
  • Collaborative mindset to work with graduate students and senior lab members.
