Medical Laboratory Technologist (Casual)

About the role

The Medical Laboratory Technologist (MLT) provides essential laboratory testing and analysis to support physicians in diagnosing, monitoring, treating, and preventing disease. This casual position works within a hospital environment, applying both automated and manual methodologies.

Key responsibilities

• Perform a variety of laboratory tests using automated, manual, or hybrid systems.
• Analyze test results, maintain accurate records, and generate reports.
• Apply quality control measures to assess equipment, reagents, and procedures.
• Troubleshoot technical issues and ensure instrument functionality.
• Collect, handle, and process specimens according to best practices.

Required profile

• Three‑year college diploma in Medical Laboratory Technology.
• Current registration with the College of Medical Laboratory Technologists of Ontario.
• Proof of full COVID‑19 immunization.
• Recent experience in a hospital laboratory setting (preferred).
• Certification in Transportation of Dangerous Goods (TDG) (preferred).

Required skills

• Specimen collection, handling, and processing.
• Proficiency with Point‑of‑Care systems.
• Experience with internal, external, and blind duplicate quality control samples.
• Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook) competency.
• Use of Meditech Lab module.
• Laboratory instrument maintenance and function checks.
