Microbiology Analyst (Level 1)

About the role

The Analyst 1 – Microbiology will generate high‑quality, defensible analytical data in a fast‑paced laboratory environment. The role involves performing microbiological analyses, preparing samples, and ensuring compliance with safety and quality standards.

Key responsibilities

• Review LIMS summary reports to plan daily work and prioritize samples according to hold‑time requirements.
• Perform sample preparation, microbiological testing and basic procedures following SOPs.
• Prepare standards, reagents and culture media while monitoring inventory levels.
• Operate and maintain laboratory instruments such as pipettes, incubators, water baths and autoclaves.
• Document deviations, non‑conformances and corrective actions and report them to the supervisor.

Required profile

• Post‑secondary education in Microbiology, Biology or a related field, or equivalent experience.
• Laboratory Technician experience in environmental microbiology preferred.
• Knowledge of aseptic handling, culture preparation and sterilization techniques.
• Familiarity with ISO 17025 quality requirements and laboratory safety practices.

Required skills

• Microbiological techniques including aseptic handling and culture preparation.
• Sample preparation and handling procedures.
• Use of LIMS and strict adherence to SOPs.
• Operation of laboratory equipment: pipettes, incubators, water baths, autoclaves.
• Basic computer skills (PC/Mac) for data recording and analysis.
