Mechanic – Fleet & Assets (Trades 3)

About the role

The University of British Columbia is seeking a skilled Mechanic to join its Fleet Management Department. You will be responsible for maintaining and repairing a diverse fleet of over 500 vehicles and equipment, ensuring safety, operational efficiency, and environmental sustainability.

Key responsibilities

• Perform mechanical repair and routine maintenance on campus vehicles, trucks, tractors, and specialized equipment.
• Overhaul engines and transmissions, conduct electrical and electronic diagnostics, and carry out fault finding.
• Rebuild parts for reuse, modify engine components, and execute both electrical and acetylene welding.
• Lubricate trucks, tractors, and equipment and maintain gardening tools such as power lawnmowers and fertilizer spreaders.
• Conduct vehicle inspections to meet Provincial Vehicle Inspection Program requirements.
• Use Planon and other preventive‑maintenance systems to track service schedules and regulatory compliance.

Required profile

• Experience servicing electric, hybrid, and CNG vehicles.
• Familiarity with preventive‑maintenance concepts and manufacturer/regulatory maintenance standards.
• Ability to work safely in a team environment and report to the Manager, Fleet & Asset.
