About the role
The University of British Columbia is seeking a skilled Mechanic to join its Fleet Management Department. You will be responsible for maintaining and repairing a diverse fleet of over 500 vehicles and equipment, ensuring safety, operational efficiency, and environmental sustainability.
Key responsibilities
- Perform mechanical repair and routine maintenance on campus vehicles, trucks, tractors, and specialized equipment.
- Overhaul engines and transmissions, conduct electrical and electronic diagnostics, and carry out fault finding.
- Rebuild parts for reuse, modify engine components, and execute both electrical and acetylene welding.
- Lubricate trucks, tractors, and equipment and maintain gardening tools such as power lawnmowers and fertilizer spreaders.
- Conduct vehicle inspections to meet Provincial Vehicle Inspection Program requirements.
- Use Planon and other preventive‑maintenance systems to track service schedules and regulatory compliance.
Required profile
- Experience servicing electric, hybrid, and CNG vehicles.
- Familiarity with preventive‑maintenance concepts and manufacturer/regulatory maintenance standards.
- Ability to work safely in a team environment and report to the Manager, Fleet & Asset.
Required skills
- Mechanical repair, engine overhaul, transmission overhaul.
- Electrical and electronic diagnosis, fault finding.
- Parts rebuilding, engine modification.
- Electrical welding, acetylene welding.
- Lubrication, preventive‑maintenance using Planon.
- Vehicle inspection per provincial program.
- Maintenance of gardening equipment.
What we offer
- Competitive salary range of $7,057 – $7,567 CAD per month.
