Lead Software Engineer

About the role

The Department of Medicine at the University of British Columbia is seeking a Lead Software Engineer to join the MSMRI Research Group. In this role you will help maintain and expand an imaging database that supports MRI data collection and analysis, while collaborating with a multidisciplinary research team.

Key responsibilities

• Design, architect, and implement complex MRI research systems, including a custom full‑stack web portal.
• Develop and maintain SQL‑based data stores and ensure seamless integration with existing platforms.
• Gather system requirements, perform technical scoping, and produce functional specifications.
• Consult with users, principal investigators, radiologists, and technical staff to align the database with research needs.
• Provide ongoing support, troubleshooting, and enhancements to improve usability and performance.

Required profile

• Creative and experienced software developer with a strong interest in medical imaging research.
• Proven ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative academic environment.
• Strong problem‑solving skills and attention to detail.

Required skills

• SQL database development and management.
• Full‑stack web development (frontend interfaces and backend services).
