Research Computing Analyst (AI & Machine Learning)

About the role

The Department of Psychiatry at the University of British Columbia invites applications for a full‑time Research Computing Analyst with expertise in artificial intelligence, machine learning and scientific computing. The successful candidate will work under the direct supervision of the Principal Investigator, Prof. Sophia Frangou, President’s Chair in Brain Health, and will receive detailed instructions on assignments.

Key responsibilities

• Implement and modify machine‑learning, artificial‑intelligence and statistical methods in research datasets, and recommend workflow improvements.
• Perform data preparation, quality control, feature extraction, and other computational tasks for large‑scale studies.
• Integrate multimodal datasets, adapting code to ensure compatibility and processing.
• Run and maintain computational workflows on local and high‑performance computing systems, monitoring execution and addressing routine issues.
• Resolve technical problems in code, data processing and workflows, escalating complex issues to senior team members.
• Provide first‑level technical support to research team members using established workflows and systems.
• Maintain clear documentation of code changes, analytical procedures, software versions, testing results and outputs.

Required profile

• Undergraduate degree in a relevant discipline with at least one year of related experience.

• Effective written and oral communication abilities.
