Intermediate Accountant – Tax Specialist (Estate & Trust)

About the role

This position supports a top financial client by preparing and filing complex estate and trust income tax returns. The role requires strong technical tax expertise and the ability to work within a dynamic team environment.

Key responsibilities

• Collect information from clients and internal sources to prepare estate and trust income tax returns.
• Perform calculations, complete schedules, and organize data for complex returns.
• Prepare personal, estate, and trust income tax returns and related schedules accurately.
• Identify post‑mortem and other tax planning opportunities.
• Review assessment notices and prepare adjustment requests, objection notices, and Clearance Certificates.
• Correspond with the CRA to provide requested information and resolve issues.
• Liaise with trust staff, external tax professionals, and clients on tax requirements and strategies.
• Participate in special projects and manage junior staff members.
• Review complex tax returns such as GREs and terminal T1 returns.

Required profile

• Minimum 3+ years of experience in accounting or tax preparation.
• Post‑secondary degree in accounting or equivalent.
• Experience preparing T1, T1 terminal, T3 trusts, and estate returns.
• Familiarity with graduated‑rate estates and deceased taxpayer scenarios.
• Strong attention to detail, analytical and research skills.
• Effective communication and ability to work independently on multiple tasks.

Required skills

• Proficiency with Taxprep tax preparation software.
• Knowledge of CRA RepID and other tax platforms.
• Experience with FI systems used for tax filing.
