In-House Legal Counsel II

About the role

We are seeking an In‑House Legal Counsel II to join Intact’s legal team. The successful candidate will manage complex insurance defence matters, provide strategic legal advice, and support the claims department across the full litigation lifecycle.

Key responsibilities

• Handle insurance defence files of varying complexity from inception to resolution.
• Prepare and conduct applications, motions, discoveries, mediations, arbitrations, pre‑trial conferences and trials.
• Draft opinions, pleadings, affidavits and other legal documents supporting motions, mediation briefs and pre‑trial memoranda.
• Deliver legal education seminars to the claims department and maintain effective communication with adjusters.
• Represent Intact in trials and hearings before provincial courts, the Court of Appeal and the Supreme Court of Canada, as well as administrative tribunals.
• Utilise approved AI tools in accordance with departmental goals and ethical guidelines.

Required profile

• Bachelor of Laws (LL.B) or Juris Doctor (J.D.) and admission to the bar.
• Demonstrated experience in insurance defence and litigation.
• Strong analytical, drafting and oral advocacy skills.
• Ability to work independently and collaborate with claims professionals.
