Officer, Government Relations and Advocacy

About the role

The Officer, Government Relations and Advocacy supports Food Banks Canada’s government relations and advocacy strategies, working closely with the VP of Advocacy & Research and a broad network of stakeholders.

Key responsibilities

• Support planning and execution of government relations and advocacy campaigns.
• Build and maintain relationships with elected officials, political staff, public servants and external partners.
• Monitor federal, provincial, territorial, municipal and Indigenous government activities, legislation and policy announcements.
• Coordinate meetings, engagement opportunities and advocacy events, including Days of Action.
• Develop advocacy training, resources and tools for food banks and provincial associations.
• Ensure compliance with lobbying and reporting requirements.

Required profile

• Undergraduate degree in political science, public administration, communications or related field.
• Minimum 4 years of experience in government relations, advocacy, public affairs or policy.
• Experience working with government stakeholders or elected officials in Canada.
• Eligibility to register as a federal lobbyist.
• Strong attention to detail and proofreading skills.

Required skills

• Knowledge of parliamentary processes and Canadian government decision‑making.
• Understanding of public policy development.
