Health, Safety & Wellness Specialist

About the role

The Health, Safety & Wellness Specialist supports the City of Hamilton by leading proactive occupational health, safety and wellness programs. Reporting to the Manager of Health, Safety and Wellness, the role collaborates with leaders, employees, joint committees and unions to ensure compliance and continuous improvement.

Key responsibilities

• Develop, implement and evaluate corporate health, safety and wellness policies, procedures and resources.
• Provide technical guidance, education and training on safety hazards, risk assessments and compliance with legislation.
• Lead investigations of critical injuries, work refusals, inspections and liaise with regulatory agencies.
• Conduct audits, gap analyses and risk assessments, delivering findings and recommendations.
• Collect, analyse and report on safety data, trends and performance indicators.

Required profile

• Demonstrated experience in occupational health and safety program development and delivery.
• Strong knowledge of the Workplace Safety and Insurance Act, Occupational Health and Safety Act and related regulations.
• Ability to work collaboratively with internal stakeholders, unions and external agencies.
