Health Care Assistant (On‑call / Casual)

About the role

The Health Care Assistant (HCA) provides frontline, hands‑on support to community members, assisting with daily living, personal care, and overall well‑being under the guidance of a Registered Nurse.

Key responsibilities

• Assist clients with activities of daily living such as bathing, grooming, dressing, toileting and oral hygiene.
• Support mobility, transfers and use of mobility aids, and provide positioning for safety and dignity.
• Prepare meals, assist with feeding, hydration and perform light housekeeping related to client care.
• Take and record vital signs, provide medication reminders and support implementation of care plans under RN supervision.
• Provide companionship, emotional support and help clients maintain connections to community, culture and daily routines.

Required profile

• Health Care Assistant Certificate or equivalent recognized training.
• Registration with the BC Care Aide & Community Health Worker Registry (or eligibility).
• Valid First Aid/CPR certification and a Class 5 driver’s licence with ability to travel within the community.

Required skills

• Vital signs measurement.
• Medication reminder within scope of practice.
• Operation of mobility aids and mechanical lifts.
• First Aid/CPR proficiency.
