About the role
The Manager, Social Services leads the social services, community wellness, restorative justice and food services portfolio for the Yuułuʔiłʔatḥ Government Health & Social Services department. Reporting to the Director, the role oversees outreach, systems navigation, advocacy, justice diversion supports and the operation of the Cixʷatin Centre kitchen, working closely with the Manager, Health to deliver integrated, wrap‑around wellness services across Hitacu, Ucluelet and Port Alberni.
Key responsibilities
- Lead planning, delivery and evaluation of community‑based social services, including outreach, wellness navigation, advocacy and family support across Hitacu, Ucluelet and Port Alberni.
- Oversee restorative justice and diversion supports, coordinating culturally informed processes such as circles and community‑based resolutions with Elders, RCMP, Crown and probation.
- Manage the Cixʷatin Centre kitchen operations, ensuring menu planning, food safety, licensing compliance and community meal programmes.
- Supervise the Outreach & Justice Worker, Head Cook, Community Care Coordinator and Child and Family Services Worker, handling recruitment, performance reviews and staff development.
- Administer the social services and food services budgets, funding agreements and reporting in partnership with the Director and CFO.
- Maintain compliance with PIPA, WorkSafeBC, lone‑worker and emergency protocols, and prepare briefing materials for senior leadership.
Required profile
- Bachelor’s degree in Social Work, Human Services, Indigenous Studies, Criminology, Public Administration or related field (or equivalent experience).
- Minimum five years of progressive experience in social services, community wellness or justice programming, including at least two years of supervisory experience.
- Demonstrated ability to lead culturally safe, trauma‑informed services for Indigenous individuals, families and communities.
- Working knowledge of MCFD, FNHA, Island Health, income assistance, housing and justice service pathways.
- Valid BC Class 5 driver’s licence and reliable transportation.
- Successful Criminal Record Check with vulnerable‑sector screening.
