Health and Safety Instructor (OHS Trainer)

About the role

4S Consulting Services Inc., which offers occupational health and safety advisory, consulting and training, is expanding its team of classroom instructors. The position reports to the Senior Training Manager and suits someone with a background in adult education and experience in occupational health and safety training. Training is provided through train-the-trainer education, instructor shadowing and co-teaching sessions.

Key responsibilities

• Teach students through in-class and/or virtual discussions supported by audio-visual presentations.
• Complete 4S Train-the-Trainer programs and maintain certifications such as Working at Heights (WAH) and JHSC.
• Deliver JHSC training in classroom, private and virtual sessions.
• Conduct Working at Heights training in classrooms and at customer sites.
• Run hands-on equipment and health and safety training such as scissor lifts, aerial boom lifts, forklifts, confined spaces, lockout and electrical safety.
• Participate in ongoing instructor training, team meetings and development workshops.
• Help develop, change and improve classroom and online training materials.
• Deliver supervisor and management training.
• Travel across Ontario to client sites for private training sessions and, occasionally, carry out site inspections.

Required profile

• 5+ years of recent OHS experience, or a professional OHS designation, or 30+ OHS trainings completed in the past 2 years, or a degree/diploma/certificate in OHS from a recognized post-secondary institution.
• 100+ hours of adult education delivery in the last 5 years, or an instructor training program based on adult learning principles, or a degree/diploma/certificate in adult education principles, or a professional training and development designation.
• Knowledge of the OHS Act and regulations, especially industrial and construction.
• Ability to work independently and in a team, with professional classroom and participant management skills.
• Public speaking and customer service skills.
• Proficiency with computers and mobile applications.
