Vice-President, Academic and Research

About the role

Canadore College, based in North Bay, Ontario, is seeking an accomplished and innovative academic leader to serve as Vice-President, Academic and Research. Reporting to the President and CEO and as a key member of the senior executive team, the Vice-President will provide strategic leadership for the college's academic portfolio, championing academic quality, student success and a labour market-responsive mix of programs and credentials. The role integrates academic programming and applied research.

Key responsibilities

• Lead academic planning and renewal, foster excellence in teaching and learning and advance flexible educational pathways.
• Integrate artificial intelligence, emerging technologies and innovative delivery models into academic programming and operations.
• Lead the college's research strategy, strengthening applied research, industry partnerships and opportunities for faculty and students to contribute to regional economic development.
• Oversee significant academic resources, support evidence-informed planning and organizational change, and build relationships with faculty, staff, union partners, government, Indigenous communities, industry and other educational institutions.

Required profile

• Respected and collaborative academic leader with progressive senior leadership experience in postsecondary education.
• Demonstrated ability to lead academic transformation in a complex environment.
• Strong financial and operational judgement, and experience advancing academic quality and program innovation.
• Understanding of applied research and external partnerships.
• Graduate degree in a relevant discipline required; a doctoral degree is preferred.
• Commitment to reconciliation, equity, inclusion, access and belonging.

Required skills

• Digital fluency and an appreciation of the opportunities and implications of artificial intelligence.
• Experience working in a unionized environment.
