Full-Charge Bookkeeper - Canadian Office Lead (Construction)
AmpThink · Fort Erie
Job description
About the role
AmpThink, a master technology integrator for sports and entertainment venues, is hiring a full-charge bookkeeper to lead its Canadian office in Fort Erie, Ontario. Reporting directly to the CFO in Garland, Texas, you will own the complete set of Canadian books, run the day-to-day of the office and act as the on-the-ground financial contact for all things Canada. This is a newly created, on-site position in the Niagara region.
Key responsibilities
- Own the full accounting cycle: accounts payable and receivable, bank and general-ledger reconciliations, journal entries, and support month-end and year-end close
- Prepare and remit Canadian GST/HST and payroll source deductions to the CRA, or coordinate them with head office and external advisors
- Reconcile intercompany activity, handle CAD/USD transactions and keep U.S. leadership informed
- Assist with U.S. bookkeeping and accounting with the CFO as time allows
- Track recurring charges, review and code incoming bills and route them to the right approvers
- Schedule field resources and track their time, attendance and expenses in Zoho tools
- Run the small office: mail, supplies, vendors, filing and records
- Occasionally receive materials at the loading dock, sign deliveries, use a manual pallet jack and lift up to 50 lbs (23 kg)
Required profile
- Experienced full-charge bookkeeper, ideally with construction or project-based experience (job costing, WIP, progress billing, holdback/retainage)
- Working knowledge of Canadian GST/HST and CRA payroll remittances
- Comfortable working across CAD and USD with a U.S. head office
- Self-directed, organized and reliable, able to lead a small office alone while the practice lead travels frequently
- Willingness to handle light office-management duties
- Legally entitled to work in Canada and able to pass a background and reference check
Required skills
- Cloud accounting/ERP system; Zoho (Books, People, Projects, Expense) is used, and QuickBooks, Sage or Xero experience transfers well
- Strong Excel skills
- Clear written and verbal communication
Nice to have
- CPA designation or progress toward one
- Experience in a sports, venue or large-project environment
- Cross-border or multi-currency experience
- Familiarity with the Zoho suite
What we offer
- Extended health benefits after a 90-day waiting period
- Contributions to a Canadian savings plan
- Three weeks of paid vacation per year and paid statutory holidays
- Paid volunteer days through the AmpForce program and a company gear program
